The Yellow Room
Susan feels very blessed to have married into a family that “grew up” on the spacious, rural Playschool property. Her husband, John had the privilege of having our beloved Miss Jean as his teacher in the Twos, now known as the Yellow Room. John’s parents were both on the Board in the mid 1960’s, alongside our founder, Miss Betty. John's father was elected chairman of the Board in the late ‘60’s and his mother proudly remembers chairing The Bazaar. John and four of his five siblings are all Playschool alumni. As you can see, she really did marry into Playschool! What a deal!! Susan had the pleasure of being a helper in the Yellow Room beginning in 2004, and four years later was welcomed on board by the staff.
Susan and John have two children, both of whom attended Playschool, and when Susan is not at Playschool she enjoys running her own hand-painted sign business out of her home studio, helping with her husband’s auto repair business, Phoenixville Automotive Repair, and volunteering at Calvary Bible Church.
Melissa lives in Phoenixville with her husband and three children. All of her children attended Playschool, and after being a parent helper for the many years they attended and remaining as a full time substitute helper after they graduated, becoming a teacher in the Yellow Room seemed like a logical step. She joined our staff in 2017.
Melissa graduated from Washington and Lee with her BA in Psychology and then received her teaching certification from West Chester University upon returning to the area and realized that early learning and brain development were what had intrigued her about psychology in the first place. She worked for seven years as a teacher at the Agnes Irwin School before taking a break to have children. When not teaching, Melissa reads everything and makes ‘stuff’.
