The Yellow Room
Melissa graduated from Washington and Lee with her BA in Psychology, and then earned her teaching certification from West Chester University upon realizing that early learning and brain development were what had intrigued her about psychology in the first place. She then worked for seven years as a teacher at the Agnes Irwin School.
All of her children attended Playschool, and after being a parent helper for the many years they attended and then continuing as a full time substitute after they graduated, becoming a teacher in the Yellow Room was the next step! She formally joined our staff as a Lead Teacher in 2017.
When not teaching, Melissa reads everything, tends bees, and makes ‘stuff’. She lives in Phoenixville with her husband and three children.

Susan has been the Assistant Teacher in the Yellow Room since 2008, after being a parent helper for the previous four years.
Susan feels very blessed to have married into a family that “grew up” in the Playschool community. Her late husband, John, had the privilege of having our beloved Miss Jean as his teacher in the Twos, now known as the Yellow Room. John’s parents were both on the Board in the mid 1960’s, alongside our founder, Miss Betty. John's father was Chairman of the Board in the late ‘60’s and his mother proudly remembers chairing The Bazaar. John and four of his five siblings are all Playschool alumni. As you can see, she really did marry into Playschool! What a deal!
Susan and John have two children, both of whom attended Playschool, and when Susan is not at Playschool she enjoys running her own hand-painted sign business out of her home studio, and volunteering at Calvary Bible Church.
