I am an alumnus of PlaySchool – I was a `two’ in the Game room at
Broadwater Farm before the Playhouse was finished.

I remember Oskar Stonorov’s building as the `Charlestown Playhouse’ ,
and what went on inside was the `Charlestown Playschool’. Have I had it wrong all
these years, or was it changed?

I knew the Stonorov’s and Avon Lea well, also the Crowells and the Bacons. Two young woman
whose maiden names were Carol Nespor Audry Johnson were `helpers’ in my later years at PS.

Hello! It’s nice of you to get in touch and to hear from an early alumni of Charlestown Playhouse! I created this website last fall for Charlestown Playhouse and occasionally check the site as the administrator. I just happened to see your comments from 12/25/18.

The best way to get in touch with the school is to send email to the school at “charlestown.playhouse@verizon.net”.

My daughter attended the preschool for 3 years. She is now is first grade. Our whole family loved “Playschool”. As far as I know, the school has always officially been called “Charlestown Playhouse” but it is most often referred to as “Playschool”.

It’s interesting to hear you mention the names of some of the original families involved with Playschool. Coincidentally, my married last name is Crowell, but we are new to the Phoenixville area as of 2015. My husband grew up in Connecticut but his father was born in Iowa. Do you know if there are still any Crowells in the area? You can reply to me personally, at “bethgilbertcrowell@gmail.com” if you feel inclined to answer. Thank you!

      Best regards,
      Beth Gilbert-Crowell
